PLT Foundations Bootcamp

30 hours total · 20 hours online instruction + 10 hours practical field-competency component

Online Curriculum — 10 Modules

Module names and scheduled durations are taken from the existing Lineman Canada course catalogue installation records. The short descriptions below are learner-oriented study summaries, not a replacement for the full course manual.

  1. Module 01 — Introduction to the Trade (2 hours online)

Identify the major types of powerline work and the role of a developing worker. The lesson introduces trade pathways, crew structure and the need to work within assigned responsibilities.

  2. Module 02 — Safety Foundations and Emergency Response (2 hours online)

Review the role of workplace orientation, hazard reporting, emergency plans and qualified supervision. Emergency responses must follow site-specific approved procedures.

  3. Module 03 — Fall Protection Systems (2 hours online)

Recognize the purpose of approved fall-protection systems, inspection processes and training requirements. Classroom awareness is not authorization for work at height.

  4. Module 04 — Life Saving Rules (2 hours online)

Review the importance of employer and client critical-risk rules and stopping work when conditions are uncertain. Follow the applicable approved version at each site.

  5. Module 05 — Job Planning and Hazard Assessment (2 hours online)

Understand how task scope, roles, hazards, controls and changed conditions are discussed before work begins. Planning is a team process led by authorized personnel.

  6. Module 06 — Climbing Gear and Knots (2 hours online)

Recognize common climbing equipment and rope-handling terminology at an awareness level. Inspection, selection and use require qualified instruction and employer authorization.

  7. Module 07 — Electrical Fundamentals (2 hours online)

Introduce basic electrical quantities and the hazards of energized infrastructure. Treat electrical equipment as hazardous and follow authorized isolation and testing procedures.

  8. Module 08 — Equipment and Hydraulics (2 hours online)

Identify common powerline equipment and the role of hydraulic systems. Equipment operation requires training, inspection, site procedures and authorization.

  9. Module 09 — Rigging, Framing and Materials (2 hours online)

Review rigging, structural framing and materials terminology and the importance of load control and inspections. Practical rigging decisions belong to qualified personnel.

  10. Module 10 — Systems, Switching and Field Awareness (2 hours online)

Identify broad transmission, distribution and substation concepts, with emphasis on site communications and controlled switching authority. This module does not grant switching authorization.

Practical Field Component — 10 Hours

Supervised field-competency training and verification conducted by appropriately qualified and authorized personnel under approved employer or provider procedures. Completion of online modules alone does not establish field competency or authorize powerline work.

Assessment and Completion

Complete all required online modules and the configured final examination. The existing course configuration specifies a 100% online assessment pass requirement and an additional field-competency verification before final Foundations certification. Confirm current enrollment and practical-session requirements through the official program.

This outline is for program information and learner planning. Follow the protected course materials and current training-provider requirements.
